Milestones!

Quite a bit has happened in the past three weeks or so, and I'm sure a lot will happen in the next few weeks as well, but I'll start this blog off with my BIG OL' BELLY!!

I'm a dork.

Body Issues!

Mark just took this picture of me last night (Sunday) at 36 weeks and one day.  As I look back at old pictures of me (even earlier on in this pregnancy), I'm missing my skinnier self!  My skinnier face, my skinnier arms, my skinnier midsection, etc.  Obviously, I am most excited about getting to experience and hold my baby girl, but the next best thing will be *slowly* getting my body back - or at least getting as close as I can after being pregnant for nine months ;)  Also, I SWEAR that my belly button is still an innie, albeit a very shallow innie.  That's seriously just a wrinkle in my shirt, I promise!  I felt the need to point that out :)  That raises a question though... say your innie turns into an outie, can they push it back in once you have your baby?  Hmm...

Baby Shower Festivities!

As you all know, we had our shower a couple weeks ago and it was FABULOUS!!  We had a great turnout and got all kinds of awesome goodies... it was hotter than you-know-what outside, but thank the Lord that we were inside.  I didn't even break a sweat!  Here are some pics for you to enjoy:

CAKE!!

Wishing I could eat it right then and there...

Most of the loot - I say most because I later realized that
some items didn't make it into the picture lol.

THE DIRTY 30!

That's right, everybody... I'm 30 years old now!!  My birthday was on Saturday, and I'm already feeling it.  Well, not really, but I did wake up with a cramp in my arm from sleeping on it wrong.  That counts, right?  I'm already falling apart!  :D  Mark and I are in the same boat now, so I can't tease him about being 30 anymore.  It's a little disappointing.  For now, 30 doesn't feel much different than 29, and I'm totally A-OK with that.  We gorged ourselves at Buca di Beppo for dinner, saw Grown Ups 2, went to the mall and bought more baby crap (I mean baby necessities), and, best of all, ate pie!  I LOVE PIE.  I REALLY LOVE PIE.  I FREAKING LOVE PIE.  Especially when it's lemon meringue!

Genetic Oddities!

As if I didn't have enough weird things going on in my body, I found out something else this past week: I am positive for one copy (I'm heterozygous) of the C677T mutation on the MTHFR gene.  Yeah, I had no clue what that was either until my doctor explained it to me.  Apparently, this mutation makes you more likely to develop blood clots while pregnant or on birth control, and may be responsible for repeat miscarriages.  Who knew?!  After reading up on this, I'm rather surprised that I didn't miscarry.  I still find this part confusing, but placing pregnant women on Lovenox or Heparin helps prevent those types of problems.  As Mark put it, my doctors knew what they were doing when they put me on Lovenox from the start!  Good ol' blood thinner injections once a day every day for the duration of my pregnancy.  It sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I developed a blood clot in my arm back when I was on birth control, so that's what started this whole blood thinner thing... four years later, I finally find out that I have a crazy mutation and that's the REAL reason for the clot and Lovenox!  Any type of hormonal birth control is out of the question (sad face), and I have to take Coumadin (a different type of blood thinner, but at least I can take it orally) for six weeks after Bailey is born because of my out-of-whack hormones during that time.  [Side note: these paragraphs aren't very well organized, and it's starting to bug me.]  The doctor told me that I'm lucky I only have one copy of the mutation; if I had two copies, I'd have to be on blood thinners every day for the rest of my life!  Say whaaaaaa?!

Maternity Ward Tours!

Today, Mark and I got to see where I will be delivering Miss Bailey, and also where I would be recovering from said ordeal.  The tour put me more at ease about where I'd be staying, and I feel better knowing that the nurses would gladly take Bailey to the nursery for awhile so that I can get some rest while I'm in there.  I feel a little guilty saying that, but let's be real here!  Mama's gonna need some time to recuperate!

Lamaze Classes!

So far we've been to two out of four classes, and while there's a little bit of cheesiness involved, I'm finding them to be quite helpful.  Practicing the breathing techniques when you're surrounded by twenty other people gets to be a little awkward, but I figure we're all in the same boat, right?  I just have to remember the 5-1-1 procedure: go to the hospital when your contractions are 5 minutes apart, each one lasting about 1 minute over the course of 1 hour, unless directed otherwise by your doctor.  Yeah, I'm probably going to have to leave myself a post-it note with that information because my memory is HORRIBLE these days!  I can't remember anything :P

Goodnight Y'all!
